It’s that time of year again, allergy season is upon us. Today we are going to share some tips to prevent eye swelling and try to make allergy season a little less irritating.
Step 1: Avoid Itching Your Eyes
While this might come as second nature to you, it is best to avoid itching your eyes. This will only increase the amount of swelling. Instead of itching your eyes, you should place a cold compress over your eyelids.
2. Remove Contact Lenses
To help reduce swelling, remove your contact lenses and wear glasses until your eyes are starting to feel better. Be sure to use fresh solution every time and to wash your hands before handling your lenses. It is of best practice to replace your contacts on time!
3. Take a look at Your Cosmetics
Be sure to test your makeup on your wrist to see if you have any type of allergic reaction. It is very common that cosmetics cause eye allergies. If this is the case for you, you should consider hypoallergenic and fragrance free cosmetics. If you experience an allergic reaction with your makeup, be sure to clean all of your brushes to avoid worsening your symptoms.
4. Visit Your Eye Care Professional
The best advice we can give you is to come in and visit one of our eye care professionals. While there are several steps you can take on your own (listed above). Eye care professionals are much more knowledgeable about eye allergies and are able to give you advice specific to your conditions.
