Meet the experienced and friendly doctors and staff who make Doctors Sehy and Jones Optometrists the leading provider of vision care products and services in Effingham.

Matthew R. Jones, O.D.

Matthew R. Jones, O.D.

Dr. Matthew Jones was born and raised in Effingham, Illinois. He attended undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois in Champaign/Urbana. Next, he went on to study Optometry at the Illinois College of Optometry.  During his training at ICO, he was at the top of his class with accolades such as Dean’s List and Beta Sigma Kappa Honors.

“Dr. Matthew” had worked for Doctors Sehy and Jones in various capacities since his high school days, but he joined our practice as a doctor in July of 2008.  Since that time, in 2013, Matthew was the recognized by his peers as  “Illinois’ Young Optometrist of the Year.”  In 2014, he was recognized as one Effingham community’s top young leaders with the “Top 20 under 40” award.

Currently serves as an adjunct professor for UMSL school of Optometry and host 4th year Optometry students during their externship rotations.   He is a past president of the Eastern Illinois Optometric Society and currently serves on the board of trustees for the Illinois Optometric Association.

Medical mission work has also always been one of Dr. Matthew’s main passions having been on multiple international trips since he was about 12 years old.  Recently, he has lead teams to provide eyecare to the remote villages of Honduras.  He also volunteers his time with the youth in the area through his church and OnEighty.

He now enjoys University of Illinois Fighting Illini sports, playing guitar, boating, and camping.  Above all things, he enjoys spending time with his wife Jennifer and three sons.

M. Brian Sehy, O.D., F.A.A.O.

Dr. Sehy received a Bachelor of Science Degree, majoring in biology, in 1988 from the University of Illinois and his Doctor of Optometry Degree in 1992 from the Indiana School of Optometry. He was inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry in 1994 and was the Illinois’ Young Optometrist of the Year in 2001.

Dr. Sehy was a captain in the USAF from 1992–1996 and practiced Optometry at Lackland AFB, Wilford Hall Medical Center and was Chief of Optometry Services at Reid Health Services Center. He joined Drs. Sehy & Jones Optometrists, P.C., in 1996 in Effingham, IL, and has provided Comprehensive Low Vision Services to the Greater Effingham area since 1997.

Dr. Sehy perviously served on the Cabinet of the Illinois Optometric Association (IOA) and was president of Eastern Illinois Optometric Society from 1998–2002. He was a contributing writer for the Low Vision Column for the IOA Quarterly Journal from 1999–2003 and was past president of the United Way of Effingham County and Effingham Sunrise Rotary Club.

Dr. Sehy presently coaches 8-10 year olds in basketball and baseball. He participates in many sports, especially basketball, golf, snow skiing, weightlifting and running.

Dr. Bob Jones graduated from Eastern Illinois University and received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1977. “Dr. Bob” has shown himself to be the regional expert in specialty and difficult contact lens fitting options.

In his free time, Dr. Bob enjoys working on home projects and spending time with his wife Jill, their five children, and three grandchildren. He has led multiple voluntary medical missions for more than 20 years. He is also very involved in his local church as an elder.

Dr. Craig Woods, O.D.

Craig grew up in Watson, IL. He is a graduate of Effingham High School, and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. From there, he went on to earn a Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Missouri – St. Louis.

In addition to his clinical training at UMSL, Dr. Woods completed clinical externships at Marion VA Medical Center and Drs. Sehy and Jones Optometrists. Through completion of his clinical rotations, he gained valuable training in fitting contact lenses and managing a vast range of ocular diseases. Dr. Woods is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Illinois Optometric Association.

Dr. Woods is passionate about health and fitness and enjoys staying active by playing a variety of sports. He is happily married to his high school sweetheart, Whitlee, and has a dog named Lacey.

Dr. Michael Stock, MD.

Dr. Stock is a native of the St. Louis area and practices as a cataract and refractive surgeon. He graduated from St. Louis Priory School and received his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University School of Engineering double majoring in Biomedical and Electrical Engineering.

Dr. Stock earned his medical degree from Washington University. He completed his Internship at Mercy Hospital and residency in Ophthalmology at Washington University Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. During that time, he was honored to serve our veterans at John Cochran VA Hospital. He is now serving the greater St. Louis community with the latest innovations in cataract surgery.

Dr. Stock is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Missouri Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, and the St. Louis Ophthalmology Society. He has published several peer-reviewed papers in the ophthalmic literature with a specific interest in cataract surgery outcomes. These studies have won several distinguished honors at National Meetings. He has co-authored a chapter in the Washington Manual of Patient Safety and Quality Improvement on LEAN and its application to healthcare. Dr. Stock has also been a contributor to Cataract & Refractive Surgery Today commenting on the results of some of the newest technology in cataract surgery.

Dr. Stock specializes in advanced cataract surgery and is certified to perform femtosecond laser cataract surgery which can enhance outcomes through laser-precision automation. He offers Premium Lens Implants to reduce glasses dependence after cataract removal. He is also certified in the latest in minimally-invasive glaucoma surgery.
